Remo Stars Claim Historic Nigeria Premier League Title

Dramatic Victory Earns Remo Stars First League Title  Last Sunday, Remo Stars stepped out on their home patch at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, against the Niger Tornadoes with just one goal in mind, win the match to earn their first-ever league title.  The Sky Blue Stars entered the match as massive favourites according to most of the best online betting sites, owing to their excellent home record this season. Not only are they unbeaten at home this term, they had also kept five consecutive clean sheets heading into Sunday’s crucial showdown.  However, things did not go as planned in the first half, as Remo carved out several chances in the lead-up to the break, but the pressure seemed to get to them as they squandered their openings and went into halftime with the scores still level at 0-0.  In the second half, though, Daniel Ogunmodede’s team settled into their rhythm and six minutes before the final whistle, super-sub Olamilekan Adedayo stepped up to slot away the only goal of the game to give his side the win and guarantee them the title after back-to-back seasons of near-misses.  The triumph was a historic one, as the last time a privately-owned team won the Nigerian top-flight title was back in 2000, when Lagos-based Julius Berger achieved the same feat. Remo are now on 68 points, 10 ahead of second-placed Rivers United, meaning they cannot be caught regardless of the results from here on.  Winning the NPFL title also means that Ogunmodede’s side will be able to compete in the CAF Champions League next season, where they will be able to compete against the best teams from across Africa and show off the progress they have made on the continental stage.  With the title secured, the champions are now on their victory lap and will play out their final three games as a formality. Next up, they travel to face El Kanemi Warriors and Bayelsa United either side of their final home game of the season against Ikorodu City. Ogunmodede Reflects on Sensational Title Victory  Following Remo Stars’ victory over the Niger Tornadoes, coach Ogunmodede revealed that despite his team’s impressive form this season, nerves and the pressure of expectation weighed hevavily on everyone involved with the team heading into the match.  However, he also explained that what got his team through was the same thing that brought them to the point of competing for the title – resilience! During his post-match press conference, Ogunmodede said:  “Like I’ve always told you, I’ve been talking about the resilience of these boys. It’s compared to nothing. We are resilient. My friend, even if it’s 90 minutes in, we know we are going to score. We believe we are going to score.” The Remo boss also explained that the reason match-winner Olamilekan Adedayo had been left out of the starting lineup initially was due to an injury he was carrying, but he also mentioned that he had faith that the 23-year-old would ...

Which Indian Players Have Played the Most IPL Matches?

MS Dhoni – 274 Appearances When you think about the yellow jersey of the Chennai Super Kings, you inevitably picture it being donned by the unmistakable image of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The former India captain was the franchise’s first captain and has featured in every edition of the IPL since its inception back in 2008.  Dhoni has made a total of 274 appearances in the 18 seasons he has played, and has scored 5,394 runs during that period. He was forced to move to the Rising Pune Supergiant in the two years that CSK was banned from the IPL for a betting a spot-fixing scandal involving the franchise’s owners.  Now, at the age of 43, Dhoni has led the Super Kings to an incredible 10 IPL finals and won five, making them the joint-most successful franchise in the competition alongside the Mumbai Indians. Dhoni will be back in action on Saturday when his side face RCB, and you can check out our Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings prediction ahead of the toss.  Rohit Sharma – 267 Appearances While most will remember Rohit Sharma as one of the Mumbai Indians’ greatest players when he eventually calls time on his career, his IPL journey actually began with the now-dissolved Deccan Chargers, with whom he won his first-ever title back in 2009.  It was his performance for the Chargers that put him on the radar of MI, who snapped him up soon after and handed him the captaincy. Sharma led Mumbai to their first IPL title in his first year with the team and has gone on to become their highest run-scorer in the competition with 6,921 runs.  With the ever-changing nature of the IPL and considering Dhoni’s career is likely nearing an end, Sharma could end his career with an incredible record, and one that will take some beating – he is the only player to have won the IPL six times! Virat Kohli – 262 Appearances Five matches behind Sharma in third place in the all-time appearances list is the poster boy of Indian cricket over the last decade, Virat Kohli. The one thing that sets King Kohli apart from anyone else on this list is that he has played all 18 seasons of the IPL for a single team – the Royal Challengers Bangalore.  Of course, what that also means is that Kohli has not lifted the IPL title throughout his illustrious career, as RCB have never won the competition despite reaching the final on three occasions, in 2009, 2011 and 2016.  Still, Kohli will likely go down as one of, if not the best batsman the Indian Premier League has ever seen. Over his 18 seasons, he has racked up an incredible 8,447 runs, more than 1,500 more than the second-highest run-scorer in the competition, Rohit Sharma.  Top 10 IPL Appearances Our cricket predictions

Hasan Ali Achieves Milestone for Karachi Kings, Aims for National Team Return

Ali Becomes PSL’s All-Time Leading Wicket-Taker The Karachi Kings have not had a lot to cheer about in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this season, as they have struggled for consistency over the first six games. They have won three and lost three of their matches to date, which sees them installed as massive outsiders to win the tournament by most of the top online betting sites. The Kings are hoping to return to prominence after finishing the last three seasons in the bottom two during the league stage, but their record so far this term has earned them six points, which leaves them in fourth place and trailing league leaders Islamabad United by four points.  However, despite their inconsistencies, David Warner’s side has managed to remain competitive thanks to a few individual player performances, perhaps none more so than that of their vice-captain Hasan Ali. Karachi’s fast bowler has bagged a total of 13 scalps in his six matches and currently leads the Maroon cap standings, one wicket ahead of Islamabad quick Jason Holder, and most cricket predictions suggest he will end the competition as the top wicket-taker. Last Friday, the Kings faced the Quetta Gladiators at the Karachi Stadium and claimed a 56-run victory, but all of the headlines following the match were directed at Ali, who picked up 3/27 in his four overs, helping his side restrict the opposition to just 119./9 in their 20 overs.  The 30-year-old’s remarkable performance in the match saw him become the PSL’s all-time highest wicket-taker! Ali has featured for three different teams in the PSL, Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United and the Karachi Kings, since his debut in 2015-16, and has taken a stunning 121 wickets in 88 matches, including a best of 4-15.  Ali Eyeing Recall to Pakistan National Team The Pakistan national team has run into major difficulties in recent years. Questionable team selections and mismanagement have sent the team on a downward spiral, as evidenced in their recent ICC tournament performances.  During the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Shaheens failed to qualify for the knockout stages and suffered the same fate at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the US and Caribbean. This year,  the Green Shirts hosted the ICC Champions Trophy and exited in the group stage without winning a single game. Ali was a crucial member of the Pakistan team that won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, where they beat arch-rivals India in the final to claim the title. He ended the tournament as the top wicket-taker with 13, four more than any other bowler, and was named the Player of the Tournament.  The 30-year-old fast bowler is hoping that his recent uptick in performances in the PSL will afford him another shot at getting back into the famous green jersey. In a recent interview, he said:  “I’m satisfied with my performance as I’m leading the bowling charts after six games for Karachi Kings. I want to represent Pakistan again — not just to be in the team, ...

Rohit Sharma Earns Another IPL Record In CSK Victory

Sharma Claims Another IPL Record The Mumbai Indians endured a tough start to the 2025 Indian Premier League, losing four of their first five games of the competition, including their opening match against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL’s El-Clasico.  Since then, though, the five-time champions have reeled off five wins in a row to move into the top four. They will look to continue their good form when they face the Royals on Thursday, and our Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians prediction is available now for more insights on this matchup. A major part of their early-season struggles was due to their poor top-order performances, including that of Rohit Sharma, who only scored 38 runs in the team’s first five games and was even left out in their loss to the Lucknow Super Giants on April 4.  However, the phrase “form is temporary but class is permanent” once again rang true, as the Mumbai Indians’ opener rediscovered his touch in the team’s eighth game, which was their second of the tournament against CSK, by posting a stellar knock of 76* in just 45 deliveries.  It was Sharma’s first half century and innings of significance this season, and his knock earned him the Player of the Match award as MI romped to a nine-wicket victory over their arch nemesis. It also marked the team’s first 100+ partnership this year, which he posted alongside Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav.  The former MI skipper smashed an incredible six sixes in his innings against CSK, including one off Jamie Overton, which proved to be a record breaker as he surpassed the long-standing benchmark set by West Indian legend Chris Gayle for the most T20 sixes struck in a single country.  Gayle had previously held the record with 357, but Sharma beat that with his fourth maximum of the match and went on to launch a further two over the ropes, taking his tally to 360*, while he also moved to third place in the highest run-scorer list in IPL history.  A Look At Sharma’s Record on his 38th Birthday Sharma celebrated his 38th birthday on April 30, turning 38, and over the years, there have been few better servants to the sport, particularly the IPL. The veteran is one of only four players who have featured in every IPL season since the competition began in 2008.  Over the 18 seasons that the IPL has been in existence, only MS Dhoni has featured in the tournament more times than Sharma, with the CSK legend turning out 274 times to date, while the MI batsman has made 266 appearances. Below, we take a look at some of the records Sharma has picked up throughout his incredible journey. The only skipper to score two IPL half-centuries in the finals Joint-most IPL titles as a captain and player (5) Only player with 6000+ runs and an IPL hat-trick First Indian player to earn 20 Player of the Match awards The Mumbai Indians need two more wins ...

PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy Flop As India Bow Out Of Tournament

India’s Dismal Start To 2025 Sudirman Cup  After winning the Thomas Cup in 2022 and earning silver in the men’s team event at the 2023 Asian Games, India’s badminton fans had reason for optimism heading into the 2025 Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China.  However, Team India were handed a few major blows in the lead-up to the competition, with two of the nation’s top pairings, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty and Treesa Jolly/ Gayatri Gopichand, forced to withdraw from the competition due to injury.  At the 16-team tournament, India were drawn into a tough group, which featured number-two seed Indonesia, as well as Denmark and England. The team’s first match of the competition was against the Danes, and they were immediately put on the backfoot, losing the mixed doubles match against Jesper Toft and Amalie Magalund 21-13, 21-14.  World number 23, HS Prannoy, featured in match two and did well to take the game to Anders Antonsen, but the Dane came good when it mattered most and claimed the victory in straight sets, 21-15-21-16, which saw India’s odds plummet with all the best online betting sites. Hariharan Amsakuranan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi were defeated in match three by Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen, meaning that India had already lost the tie before PV Sindhu stepped onto the court to face Line Kjaersfeldt in the women’s singles category.  As it turned out, the team’s previous losses didn’t matter that much as Sindhu also went down in straight sets, while the only victory the team managed came from Tanisha Castro and Shruti Misha against Alexandre Boje and Natasja Anthonisen in the women’s doubles match.  Find out how to bet on badminton Indonesia Confirm India’s Premature Elimination Following their heavy defeat to Denmark, India entered Tuesday against Indonesia in a must-win situation, and they got off to the perfect start, with Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto beating Rehan Kusharjanto and Gloria Widjaja in three sets, 10-21, 21-18 and 21-19.  However, it was all downhill from there on, with world number 18, Sindhu, losing in straight sets 21-12, 21-13 to number 11-ranked Putri Kusuma Wardini in just under 40 minutes before Prannoy fell to Jonatan Christie in match three.  Prannoy arguably put up the biggest fight of any of the India players, as he rallied from 19-17 down to beat the 2024 All England Champion in game one, but Christie came back swinging in the final two games to secure the win 19-21, 21-14, 21-12.  In the final matchup, the 42nd-ranked Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi lost to Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin 22-20, 20-18 – albeit that it was a dead-rubber match.  India have not earned a point in the competition, and while they still have one tie to go, against England on Wednesday, Denmark and Indonesia have already built up an insurmountable lead, meaning Team India will exit the tournament after their next match.  More sports news

A Star is born! Youngest Player Ever in IPL Vaibhav Suryavanshi Claims Second Piece of Tournament History

Suryavanshi Becomes Youngest T20 Centurion The 2025 Indian Premier League has brought us several memorable moments, but few can come close to what we witnessed at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday evening when the Rajasthan Royals stepped out to bat in pursuit of the Gujarat Titans’ 209/4.  Vaibhav Suryavanshi took to the crease opposite Yashasvi Jaiswal, and from the first over, it looked as though the team from Rajasthan were the IPL leaders and not on the verge of elimination.  At just 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi produced an innings for the ages, smashing the Titans’ bowlers for a blistering 101 runs off just 38 deliveries, and our Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians prediction suggests RR are now the team to beat in their next match.  Suryavanshi’s knock included seven fours and 11 sixes and was the fastest by an Indian player. Bear in mind, this was against a GT bowling attack that includes the likes of internationally-capped players Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma and Rashid Khan.  The teenager’s innings now stands as the second-fastest in the history of the IPL, only bettered by Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton in 2013. It also saw him make history, becoming the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket, just a week after he became the youngest player to feature in the IPL.  And just like that, history was made… twice!  With the youngster taking the bowlers to the cleaners, Jaiswal’s stunning 70* in 40 balls at a strike rate of 175.00 went almost unnoticed. Speaking after his incredible innings, Suryavanshi said:  « It feels really good. It was my first century in the IPL in my third innings. What I’ve been practicing for the last three-four months, the result is showing. I don’t see the ground so much, just focus on the ball.” The Royals snapped-up the 14-year-old at the IPL mega auction for just ₹1.10 crore and he was not expected to even make the first team this season until Sanju Samson sustained an abdominal injury, which opened up a gap in the top-order.   Can The Rajasthan Royals Qualify For The IPL Playoffs? With Suryavanshi and Jaiswal at the top of the order, the Rajasthan Royals’ future looks extremely bright. However, all the best online betting sites seem to agree that the team will have to wait at least another year to get a chance to challenge for the title.  That victory against Gujarat was only the Royals’ third in 10 matches this season, which leaves them on six points with four games left to play. Over the years, 16 points has been the magical number to secure a playoff spot, and even if the team wins all their remaining matches, they can only get to a maximum of 14 points.  Indeed, there have been instances where 14 points have been enough for a team to progress to the knockouts, but RR also have a very poor net run rate of -0.349, which is the third-worst in ...

Favourites to Win Title At Halfway Stage

Deportrio Shorten To Second-Favourite After Going Top  Night six of Baller League delivered several compelling storylines, but perhaps the most notable was seeing Angry Ginge’s Yanited dislodged from the top of the table after suffering their first loss of the season against Luis Figo’s Trebol FC.  The defeat proved to be a costly one for the team donning the famous colours of Newton Heath, as it saw them drop to third place in the league standings, one point behind VZN FC and Deportrio.  Micah Richards, who manages Deportrio alongside England greats Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, racked up their fifth win of the competition after putting in a very impressive performance to beat Ian Wright’s Wembley Rangers AFC in the final match of the night.  The victory for Deportrio also saw them shorten to second place in the latest online betting sites‘ odds to win the title, now showing up at 3.25, only marginally behind Yanited, who are still favourites to win the inaugural competition despite losing their unbeaten record.  One team that has crept up on the ‘big two’ in the competition is Toby Brown’s VZN FC, who, despite drawing the Sidemen derby against Simon Minter’s M7 FC and losing to Deportrio on opening night, has managed to win three penalty shootouts in six weeks.  Each penalty shootout victory earns one additional point for the winning team, meaning VZN FC have been awarded three points – the equivalent of another win – which puts them on 16 points, only behind the league leaders on goal difference.  After beating the mighty Yanited, Figo’s Trebol FC have moved up to fifth-favourite according to Bet365, right behind Santan FC, who were involved in the biggest shock result of the night, losing to bottom-of-the-log N5 FC, led by the Arsenal Invicibles, Jens Lehmann, Freddie Ljungberg, and Robert Pires.  The final result worth mentioning was John Terry’s 26ers pulling off an against-the-odds victory over Alisha Lehmann and Maya Jama’s MVPS United. The former Chelsea captain’s side is now on seven points after six games.  Football predictions Crazy Scenes On Night Six In Baller League UK While many football purists may feel that Baller League UK is not “proper football”, one thing you cannot deny the KSI and IShowSpeed-led competition is that there is never a dull moment on league night.  Last week, Micah Richards lost a wager to Angry Ginge that will force him to wear a pair of Lightning McQueen crocs live on Sky Sports. The pundit was far from pleased with the outcome, but got his chance to get back at the YouTuber on Monday night.  Following Yanited’s defeat, Richards stormed the field to celebrate the team’s loss, and was seen imitating a dance popularised by Yanited player PK Humble, which has since gone viral across social media.  However, the biggest talking point of the night was seeing another former English Premier League veteran get in an on-field scrap. Last week, Troy Deeney was sent off after an altercation with an FC ...
